Thank you for visiting JK Designs! This business has been a dream of mine for years and I’m excited to share my work with you.
Livestock and agriculture has always been a large part of my life and I couldn’t imagine anything any different. I grew up on my family’s cattle and grain operation in Northwest Ohio. My brother and I were both active showing steers, heifers and market lambs in 4-H. We were also very active in the Ohio Junior Angus Association and National Junior Angus Association and every summer our family vacation was to either the National Junior Angus Show or the Eastern Regional Junior Angus Show.
Continuing my love of agriculture, I attended Ohio State University majoring in Animal Sciences with a minor in Agribusiness. At OSU, I was very involved with the Saddle and Sirloin Club and served as a co-chairman of the Scarlet & Gray Midwest Showdown Steer and Heifer Show for two years. My other OSU activities included Sigma Alpha Sorority as well as being a member of both the Meats and Livestock Judging Teams. I truly enjoyed my four years at OSU and although I had the chance to be a student when Ohio State won a National Championship in football my senior year; I still knew I was missing something in my education.
So I packed up my life and moved 1,000 miles from home to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to earn a master’s degree in Agricultural Communications from Oklahoma State University. Hands down this was probably one of the best decisions of my life! I truly enjoyed the education from my second OSU but more importantly I loved the friendships I gained and my time in the state of Oklahoma where agriculture truly is number one.
Upon graduation, I was fortunate to be offered a position with the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and Ohio Beef Council that allowed me to return back to the Buckeye State and continue with my passion for the beef industry. For six great years, I served as the Director of Member Services and Communications for both organizations as well as the managing editor for the Ohio Cattleman magazine. In this position my design work focused on: magazines, directories, newsletters, brochures and fliers. In addition I made a lot of contacts throughout the industry as I coordinated the Ohio Beef Expo’s Trade Show, which is without a doubt the best beef trade show in the Midwest.
In May of 2011 I had the opportunity to change my career path slightly and return closer to my family’s farming operations by becoming the Communications and Business Manager of Breeders’ World Online Sales. Marketing livestock online truly exploded in the last several years and it is was very exciting to be a part of the Breeders’ World team during this growth.
March 2014 brought a relocation to southern Ohio and yet another career change and exciting challenge. I am the Member Support and Data Management Specialist for Premium Agricultural Commodities Inc. based out of Hillsboro, Ohio. In this position I am working for a private cooperative of innovative and motivated grain farmers in southwest Ohio. My time is currently focused on precision agriculture and helping the members with their personal technology needs including design assistance.
Over the last several years, I’ve also had the opportunity to do design work for other organizations and farms in my spare time. You can check out examples of these items on my design portfolio page. I’ve also expanded another endeavor – JK Designs: Glass Division. Check out many of the items I have for sale on the glass division page as well.
If you have any projects in mind please don’t hesitate to contact me – I’d love to hear from you!
